We want to thank you for giving us an opportunity to share our heart and our love for the precious, gentle people of south central Africa.-Zambia.Our ministry is commited to addressing the hard issues of poverty, premature death, hunger and disease that the Zambians are born and locked into. Our mission is to bring social, physical and spiritual changes by:

 

1. encouraging, equipping and partnering with faithful African Pastors. The resources to operate and maintain an African church is almost non existant. How far can a a pastor walk in a day. Where are the means to pay transport? Bibles are in great demand, yet there are so few.

2. we are assisting widows and orphans (the very heart of God) by providing care for the children and teaching skills/adult literacy classes to widows.  Our orphans which number over 500 are given Christ-centered education and skills training that will give them a chance to come up and out of that gut-wrenching poverty. Widows in Africa are very young due to short life span (between 20-28) and generally have four to 5 children to feed.

3. providing education and trade skills for deaf children(some are orphans, some have a relative's care)

4. community outreach-farming, water projects, building/carpentering, welding, etc

 

Our mission is based on our faith in a loving and compassionate god who has said freely you received, freely give. That is our call, our mission. It truly is more blessed to give than to receive and MTMI is humbled that God has trusted us with   His treasure- precious humanity.

WHY ZAMBIA? a few facts that will draw a picture :  Zambia is one of the poorest African nations, with a population of 11 million. There are at present 1.1 million orphans. The life-span being 32-38 due to the ravages of malaria, cholera and HIV/aids and just plain lack of food and good nutrition.  The average workers wage is 40 cents per day and unemployment is right at 65%.

Our purpose is not to westernize Zambia. There is much the west could gleen from them. Rather, our purpose is to share the many gifts and blessings that God has poured upon us.  I cannot imagine having spent my life here and having never know the incredible teams I have been blessed to work with, my African brothers & sisters in Christ. - Barbara Lund, Director of Missions

President and co-founder of the Mustard Tree Ministry.  The first step into Africa was taken because of this family's trust and confidence in what God purposed in Zambia. The integrity and faithfulness required to get MTMI off and running, meeting God's approval, the ability to maintain the apostolic vision in the face of set -backs and discouragements have produced thousands of souls for the kingdom of God, hundreds of children getting a chance to live and discover just how precious they are indeed.

We care for and educate 315 orphans and vulnerables.  
We teach adult literacy classes and minister to 47 widows.
We are teaching trade/job skills.
HIV?AIDS  and other disease preventions are taught regularly.
